    PUEBLO — Artwork crafted by a dozen Fremont County artists was on display this season at the Colorado State Fair’s Fine Arts Building.

    With work that ranged from weaving to painting, several artists took home ribbons during the annual competition, hosted in Pueblo.

    — Joan Sindler of Cañon City won second place in the professional division for her work “The Chicken and the Princess.”

    Joan Sindler won the Judge’s Choice Award during the 12th annual Zonta Artful Women Reception.

    “I was pleasantly surprised,” she said. “I had a very influential high school art teacher, but I really haven’t pursued an artistic path because I went to nursing school. I work as a (physician’s assistant,) but I really haven’t had the opportunity or the time to put much energy in art.”
